Year in Chess
A year of your games on Chess.com or Lichess, told one number at a time: how much you played, how you scored, your best win, your openings and how your games ended.
About Year in Chess
Year in Chess looks back over a year of games on Chess.com or Lichess. Enter a username and pick a year: the public games are read month by month and counted in your browser, and you get how many you played and at which speeds, your score with White and with Black, how your rating moved, your best win and your biggest upset, your longest streaks, the openings you played most, when you play and how your games ended.
What it counts
- Score
- Your points as a share of the games: a win counts as one point and a draw as half. 50% means you scored as many points as you gave away.
- Best win
- The highest-rated player you beat in a rated game, by the rating the site showed in that game.
- Biggest upset
- The rated loss to the player rated furthest below you at the time.
- Streaks
- Wins in a row, and games in a row without a loss, where a draw keeps the run going.
- Openings
- Named as the site names them and grouped by family, so every Sicilian counts together. An opening is listed once it comes up twice.
- Time on the clock
- Added up from the clock time the site records after every move, or estimated from the time control and the number of moves when a game has no clock times. Daily games are left out.
Counted in your browser
The games come from the site's public records: Lichess games straight from Lichess where it allows, Chess.com games through Aback Chess's server. The counting happens on your device, and nothing is saved to an account.
A year on your clock
A year runs from 1 January to 31 December where you are, and months, days of the week and hours are read on the same clock. Games against the computer are left out.
Only what the games show
Every number is counted from the games. When there are too few to say something, such as when you play or which openings you prefer, the review says so instead of guessing. A year is read up to 3,000 games; past that, it says how far it reached.
